The Te Araroa Trail is a 120-day track offering light tramps and attractive day and overnight walks connecting settlements, townships and cities.
The Wellington section of the Te Araroa Trail is an easy tramping track and begins at the Tararua Ranges in the lower North Island, before heading south and weaving along the Kapiti Coast, then winding over ridge lines into Wellington City.
The section of the trail that lies within the Wellington City region follows the Skyline Walkway, Northern Walkway, and City to Sea Walkway - each with markers along the way. Starting at Mt Kaukau, you'll take in some stunning views of Wellington and the harbour, visit the Wellington Botanical Garden and famous Wellington Cable Car, before finishing up at Shorland Park in Island Bay where Te Araroa's North Island Foundation Stone lies.
