Breathing life back into one of Wellington's original suburban cinemas, Roxy Cinema, is a labour of love for a group of the city's most successful film and hospitality personalities.
Founders of The Roxy Cinema include Weta Workshop founders, Tania Rodger & Richard Taylor, Oscar-winning editor Jamie Selkirk and wife Ann, foodies Valentina & Daminda Dias, and cocktail bar guru Jonny McKenzie.
The Roxy Cinema was recently awarded the prestigious 'Best Cinema in New Zealand' award by the Australian Independent Distributors' Association.
The art deco façade of the 1928 building has been retained, with the interior completely rebuilt to feature two luxurious state-of-the-art cinemas, a cafe/restaurant (open for brunch, lunch and dinner) and cocktail lounge that revives the style of the 20s/30s era.

The Grand Lobby Gallery upstairs at The Roxy is a small exhibition space that showcases local artists in a relaxed environment. The art will not always be traditional, and may often surprise. Pop up for a coffee or wine and check out the monthly exhibitions. For the latest exhibition, check out their Facebook page.
