Situated within the original Cable Car Winding House, the Cable Car Museum brings to life the story of Wellington's iconic cable cars.
Located just a few metres from Wellington's iconic cable car lookout with spectacular views over the city, this museum tells the story of the country’s only remaining public cable car system.
The original winding house built in 1902, housed the winding gear which pulled Wellington's first cable cars from the city centre up to Kelburn.
Visit the museum to learn the service’s colourful history, marvel at the machinery in the old winding room or climb aboard one of the old grip cars.
Check out what's on at the Cable Car Museum, Wellington Museum, Space Place and Nairn Street Cottage. From school holiday programmes to live music.
