Visit Wellington Zoo and connect with animals.
Home to over 500 animals, you can see the only bears in New Zealand, as well as lions, tigers, giraffes and many more. No two days are the same at Wellington Zoo – you can watch vets at work saving native wildlife orcheck out the daily animals talks to get a chance to see the animals up close and hear different stories from the Keepers who care for them every day.
Find out how Wellington Zoo works to save animals in the wild when you explore the new walk-through precinct, Meet the Locals He Tuku Aroha. Sharing the Zoo’s love story to New Zealand, this new space celebrates native wildlife, domesticated locals and our amazing unique environment and is home to Kororā little blue penguins, sheep, kunekune pigs, bees, grand and Otago Skinks, Maud Island frogs and kea.
You can also get up close to animals from across the ditch in the Australian walk-through, Neighbours. Stroll with the kangaroos, wallabies and emu, and check out Tasmanian devils and dingos.
