Capital Tastes

Discover fresh tastes in New Zealand’s café capital as Zest introduces you to local flavours, products and people. Our friendly, local guides showcase Wellington, its history, art and eclectic architecture. Take a peek behind the scenes at some of our favourite Wellington food places. Meet owners and passionate food producers and sample their culinary artisan offerings as we go where only Zest can.

Walking Gourmet

This tour includes all of the highlights of our Capital Tastes Tour, with the addition of more time with your knowledgeable guide over a delicious two-course lunch. Take a seat in a top Wellington restaurant and indulge in a lunch with expertly matched New Zealand wine.

Taste Wellington

A unique gourmet travel experience limited to two guests on this luxury private tour. Discerning travellers rarely have the chance to be welcomed into a Wellington foodie’s home and treated to some kiwi hospitality for afternoon tea. The day includes all of the classic Zest Capital Tatses and Walking Gourmet activities, as well as being welcomed into the home of a local foodie to delight in a delicious home-made afternoon tea.

Martinborough Food and Wine Producers Tour

We also offer a privately guided food and wine tour of Greytown and Martinborough, just an hour's drive from Wellington in the celebrated Wairarapa wine region.

Explore the historic township of Greytown and the celebrated Martinborough wine region, particularly revered for its award winning pinot noir production. Hosted by a local expert Zest guide, this is a highly personalized experience. We meet passionate food producers and take a peak behind the scenes of premium wine brands, tasting our way through the region. Savour a delicious light lunch, expertly matched with premium Martinborough wines.

  • Monday to Friday 9:30am – 4pm.
  • Pick up from and return to agreed South Wairarapa location or train station.
  • Bookings required 72 hours prior.
  • Available for 2 to 4 guests.
  • Tour not suitable for those with wheelchairs or walking limitations.
  • NZ $595.00 per person, inclusive of all tastings, lunch, wines and return transport in the region.

If you are in Wellington, we recommend you take the Wairarapa return train from Wellington Railway Station to Featherston Station, which departs at 8:25am on weekdays. Our local guide will meet you at Featherston Station and return you to the train for your trip back at the end of your tour. When you book, please let us know where we need to meet you.


Bookings and Cancellations

A minimum of two guests are needed for each tour.

Prices quoted are retail, include GST, and are effective until 31 March 2018.

  • Bookings are confirmed on receipt of payment
  • You can change the date of your tour with 48 hours notice
  • If you cancel your tour with more than 48 hours notice, you will receive a full refund
  • If you cancel within 48 hours, you will receive a 50 percent refund
  • If you cancel on the day, you will receive no refund
  • Please note these tours are not suitable for guests with wheel chairs or walking limitations
  • Private tours are available on request for an additional fee per person.
  • Special language tours are also possible in the following languages for an additional fee per person:
