One of our favourite coffee spots has a new sibling – Goldmine by Lamason.
Goldmine by Lamason is found on… the corner of Willis and Dixon Streets.
You can expect… a sleek minimalist café doing excellent coffee and food. You'll find lots of local goods, including Six Barrel Soda, Fix and Fogg peanut butter muffins, and Libertine Teas, as well as some Asian influences – Korean fried chicken, fish tacos with Asian slaw and chilli lime dressing, and Kimchi subs.
I ingested… the house granola with fruit, yoghurt and maple syrup, along with a decaf flat white (yeah, I know).
The granola was vegan, beautifully presented, light, fresh and flavourful. Good value at $12.
The menu is currently divided into 'breakfast', 'brunch' and 'lunch', but I’m told brunch and lunch will soon combine forces, and the menu will expand further.
The drinks… of course, are all about the coffee. Although I’m a wussy decaf drinker, the coffee was extremely well made with a nicely balanced flavour.
You can also enjoy single-origin filter coffees such as Colombian, Honduras Natural, Ethiopian Guji or Yirgacheffe, and even take them home if it’s the start of a beautiful love affair.
The service… was efficient, calm and friendly, given it was an uber busy Saturday brunch time.
What tickled me most… was the dot system on the menu to show how brekkie could be made gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian or dairy-free. Nicely done.
What I’m eyeing up for next time… the chilli scrambled eggs on sourdough with fresh greens and coriander, and one of those Fix and Fogg peanut butter muffins.
