Essential summer

By Josiah 11 Dec 2017

For this series I’ve compiled some of my favourite activities and summer consumables for your enjoyment! For me, these make up the ideal summer day in the sun.

Swim + Beach + Explore

Around this time of year, the harbour warms up and becomes a nice spot for swimming. The most accessible and popular spot is Oriental Bay – a white sand beach and a super nice place to cool off.

If you're willing to make the trip across to Seatoun and the surrounding bays, there are some stellar spots there too. My favourites are Mahanga and Scorching Bay and they're usually pretty quiet.

There are lots of great coastal areas to explore around Wellington. If you’re near the Miramar Peninsula, head up to Massey Memorial  the view is worth the short easy walk. Katiki Point Lighthouse is nearby too – this small checkered structure pokes out at the end of the peninsula.

Pizza

Summer and pizza are synonymous. If I'm with a group of people who are keen for some quick eats, I head to Pizza Pomodoro. Pomodoro specialises in traditional Neapolitan Pizza, so if you want something authentically-tasty, this is the spot to go. On Wednesday nights there are deals to be had  $10 Margheritas! Grab yourself one and head down to the beach for the evening...

Cold Brews

Cold brews are a Wellington summer staple. On a swelteringly hot day, devouring one of these with some nice chunky ice goes down a treat. Here are some of my recommendations for a good one:

Milk Crate

People's Coffee

Customs Brew Bar

Franks Coffee
