While everyone is busy trying to conquer their Christmas shopping and seasonal to-do lists, Bodyhaven suggests that you take some time to pamper yourself. After all, the perfect time to relax is when you don’t have the time for it.
Bodyhaven Spa, located in the Amora Hotel, is a little nugget of nirvana in the middle of the CBD. Even sauntering into the luxurious entrance of the hotel made me a little bit giddy with excitement, and it felt like I was escaping humdrum, everyday life and getting away from it all. Luckily the lovely ladies at Bodyhaven were ready to calm my giddiness. After my warm welcome into this boutique spa, I was shown through to a serene oasis where I sipped on delicious Turkish tea while I waited for my therapist to whisk me off to paradise. I could see Wellington Harbour through the window, but my mind was already somewhere else.
The spa caters to a mixture of clientele: Wellingtonians in need of some pampering, as well as tourists and hotel guests visiting our cool little capital. The late opening hours mean that you can fit in a cheeky manicure or a much-needed massage around your busy schedule. They also offer a myriad of tailor-made spa parties to suit any occasion.
I was lucky enough to experience the Island Dream package, the spa’s current seasonal special offer. In the midst of the Christmas craziness, this package is the perfect way to relax the mind, refresh the body and revive the soul. Ninety minutes of endorphin-producing bliss, including an organic clay back mask, a hydrating facial using Tahitian monoi flower oil and one of the best massages I have ever experienced (and I’ve experienced quite a few in my time). To top it all off, to banish the after-treatment blues a glass of chilled champagne awaits you, allowing you to return to reality in the most pleasant way imaginable.
I left in a haze of aromatic oil-scented bliss and I began a most productive afternoon of Christmas shopping on Cuba Street, made possible thanks to my Island Dream getaway; a 90 minute round trip to a paradise without the hefty airfare and the need for dowdy compression socks. As the saying goes, an afternoon well spent, brings a week of content.
