As if Wellington didn't already have an impressive line up of fabulous clothing boutiques, Caughley is the latest destination to add to your list.
Open just three weeks, and situated on Ghuznee Street, Caughley is the new kid on the block, but it’s already a crowd favourite. Owner, operator and fellow Wellingtonian, Rachael Caughley, has a tasteful eye and passionate love for clothes. Rachael has harboured fantasies of opening her own store since working at Dunedin’s cult status retailer, Slick Willy’s. And in the wake of that dream becoming reality, we Wellingtonian’s are the real winners.
Lucky, lucky us.
Rachael is a people pleaser. Her elaborate, lustworthy clothing range satisfies the girls and guys, the young and the old. She has introduced socialite status, unique fashion brands to the Wellington district. Her range boasts an impressive repertoire of high fashion house international designers. In my opinion, it’s an overdue breath of fresh air. Finally, a Wellington wind I can get on board with!
Caughley has introduced Wellington to brands that previously resembled an unattainable, Instagram fuelled pipe dream. While it’s undeniable that our little capital is full to the brim with great shopping spots, there’s nothing quite of Caughley nature. And no doubt Wellington’s ready for it. When the clothes are this beautiful even the price tags aren’t a deterrent.
Caughley was destined for greatness from the beginning. Its glamorous opening was busier than El Horno at 3am on a Sunday morning. In attendance were Wellington’s sharpest, and slickest. Rachael’s marketing background crept in via Caughley cups and serviettes. True to style, champagne didn’t stop flowing. This was a girl speaking my language.
While usually over confident in my extensive knowledge of all things fashion, a quick glance through the Caughley racks had me seriously questioning my credentials. Alexandra Dodds jewellery, handcrafted horn eyewear by Lewis Fredericks and Current Elliot clothing were notable standouts. They seriously did make my heart skip a beat.
A broad price range means that, be it an investment jacket or budget friendly fashion fix that takes your fancy, Caughley is sure to satisfy your desires. While I initially went in looking for something to up the ante with respect to my boyfriend’s style game, I, somewhat concerningly, quickly forgot he existed as I spotted the range of gold hoop earrings and white crushed silk pants... (I mean he could use some of those couldn’t he??).
While a Caughley splurge may manifest in uncontrollable guilty stomach lurches, you can mitigate these symptoms by adding a not-for-profit Nepali Cashmere scarf to your haul. Walk out both a fashionista and a humanitarian!
If your usual shopping spots are leaving you uninspired, or you’re simply wanting some fresh air from the Cuba Street grind, head to Caughley. And if you’re wanting to revamp your wardrobe but worried you don’t have the flair? Don’t worry – Rachael does.
