Ladies (and more than a few gents out there), I don’t really need to sell you on a pampering spa, do I? What I will do, is sell you on the particular delights of this one.
Spring Spa is a more modern version of the usual spa environment. The decor has a distinct Scandinavian vibe, with bleached wood floors, bamboo partitioning and cool light colours splashed across wooden seats. Rather than hushed, cloistered rooms off a corridor, there is a set of massage tables along side each other for foot and leg treatments. But don't worry, they also have separate rooms for when you desire a more private treatment.
I was at peace from the moment I walked in. The staff’s cool and collected demeanour immediately relaxed me after rushing there on a sweltering Wellington day (yes, they do exist).
This time of year can have you racking your brain for Valentine's Day ideas. And I’m sure your partner is no different! To help them along maybe drop a few hints at one of Spring Spa’s Valentine's packages. Spring Spa currently has three promotions running for Valentines Day; Let’s Spring it On, Toe-Tally in Love and Good to Glow.
Choosing between them was difficult, but in the end I settled on Let’s Spring It On. I really wanted the shoulder massage but also figured my feet could use some love considering how I usually treat them.
Let’s Spring it On is usually a deal for couples but was I going to let that stop me?
All I saw from the massage table next to me was a place to put my bags... In saying that, I can easily see how this couples massage would be the perfect Valentine's Day treat. For those of you who would love to give your partner a foot massage but wouldn’t touch their feet with a barge pole – Hani has you covered.
The treatment starts in the welcome area of the spa, where I was brought a Morning Detox tea and sparkling water, you know, just in case I wasn’t already relaxed from Hani showering my feet with an industrial sized watering can, and exfoliating them with a brown sugar and grapefruit scrub. I’m not much of a tea drinker myself but I can vouch for this one. When in Rome!
Once my feet were buffed, scrubbed and callus-free, I was taken upstairs for my massage. The room had two massage tables side-by-side, perfect for you to enjoy your partners company... or forget it. It starts with a 15-minute neck and shoulder massage complete with massage oils and hot towels.
The second Valentine's treatment available is Toe-Tally in Love – the pinnacle in pedicure experiences. Your feet will be softened in steamed whole milk and mega-moisturising almond oil, then scrubbed, buffed and polished. Plus, you will walk out with Storm & India’s Love Tea to take home for your Valentine (or yourself!).
And if Valentine's Day is making you reflect on the single life, try ‘Good to Glow’. This treatment involves supercharging your lips with a gentle peel and quick lip wax or thread and buffing your nails up with a paint pedi and shellac mani. Certainly the best way to feel fabulous whether you’re going out for drinks with the girlfriends or smashing chocolates on the couch at home.
Ever living vicariously through my articles, my mum treated herself to a treatment at the Auckland branch (you know, for research sake...) and what a rave I received from her afterward! She got the ‘eyes and shine’, a 15 minute treatment for $25 which helps relieve dark circles and de-puff eyes with a vitamin C packed eye mask, combined with a soothing eye massage. A pampering treat without having to spend a fortune.
To be honest, my beauty parlour indulgences have never gone beyond eyebrow shaping and tinting. I can now see how easy it would be to become addicted to a regular indulgence. The Valentine's Day promotions are great, but really... why not feel fabulous every day of the year?
If you end up treating yourself (or your Valentine treats you) to a Spring Spa experience, let me know what treatment you got. I'm definitely keen to head back ASAP!
