With music and lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, the award-winning husband and wife duo. The play tells the story of the week following the September 11 attacks and the true story of what took place as part of Operation Yellow Ribbon. In the province of Newfoundland and Labrador Canada, in the small town of Gander, 38 planes were ordered to land unexpectedly with more than 7,000 travellers left stranded.
To create the play, Irene and David travelled to Newfoundland and interviewed thousands of locals. Uncovering a tale of immense generosity of the thousands of ‘come from aways’ being housed and fed by the people of Gander. The generosity of spirit in the darkest of times, the outpouring of hope, and the revelation of human kindness is now captured in this moving piece of theatre.
