Wildfinder opens the door to outdoor adventure

The passionate team at Wildfinder has all the gear, expert advice and experience you need to help you explore Wellington's big backyard

Hutt Valley

Whether turquoise seas crossed with a paddle in hand, rushing rapids experienced atop a sturdy raft, or lush green trails seen by bike or foot, the wider Wellington region offers many memorable outdoor excursions.

Operating out of three key bases at Pencarrow, Kaitoke and Days Bay, Wildfinder is on a mission to bring these adventures to locals and travellers alike. At each of the three locations, the friendly team is there to help you venture into the great outdoors, with cycle and e-bike hire and tours, kayak and stand-up paddleboarding hire and bush walks. They've even teamed up with Wellington Rafting to offer bike and whitewater rafting combo tours.

Wildfinder came to be when Dave Woulfe was working in the corporate world and longing for more adventure in his life. He bought a couple of existing businesses - a boat shed with kayaks for hire, and a bike shed catering for cycle hire - and spent the next few years building up the business to a point where it was viable. Eventually, Dave was able to join the business full time, and now spearheads operations with his wife, Alice.

Today, Dave and Alice are joined by a wider team that each brings their personal experience and passion to the mix, offering authentic and genuine insights to customers. Gradually the team opened other sites and widened their scope to include a Kaitoke branch, tours around the Remutaka Cycle Trail and their collaboration with Wellington Rafting. Over the course of this growth, Dave and Alice came to find that Wildfinder wasn’t about a specific activity or a distinct demographic, but about encouraging hearty exploration into an impressive and massively underrated part of the country.

With Wildfinder you can explore cycle trails, coastal and bush walks, and wild coast. Whether on a tour or by your own steam using Wildfinder gear, you can head out to Pencarrow Head, Pencarrow Lighthouse, Parangarahu Lakes, the S.S. Paiaka wreck, Baring Head / Ōrua-pouanui, Turakirae Head and The Hutt River Trail.

A current favourite from Wildfinder is the bike trip on the Remutaka Cycle Trail. An incredibly varied cycle trail, in three days you move from the suburbs to a river valley, historic rail trail, farmland and eventually come to meet the coastline.

Whether you’re off on a tour or are after some equipment, the Wildfinder team are well-versed in the locations and activities offered, and are able to support people of a range of fitness levels and tastes to help you find your ideal activity on land or sea.
