Closing a street in downtown Wellington for 48 hours enabled an agency to film an important road safety commercial.
Land Transport New Zealand wanted to create a commercial showing the impact of speed in road crashes by dropping cars containing dummies from different storey heights. Screen Wellington worked with Wellington City Council and local business owners to arrange for part of a Wellington street containing high-rise buildings to be closed for 48 hours for filming.
Producer Jane Byrne, of local company Pearl Productions, said the commercial was challenging from both a safety and technical perspective.
“Screen Wellington was brilliant in assisting us to pull this commercial off within a very limited time frame. They immediately understood our requirements and worked alongside us to provide us with what we needed. Closing the road for 48 hours was a major achievement as it meant we could leave all our technical equipment in place in a lock down situation, which saved us hours of valuable shooting time.“
“Frankly without their support and commitment to a film-friendly Wellington, this job would have been far more difficult to produce.”
