When it comes to filming in Marlborough, the regions versatile landscape can double for most places and there is support every step of the way to make sure your production process runs smoothly.
A short flight from Wellington, Marlborough is a picturesque region at the top of the South Island. Home to diverse landscapes all within close proximity and known for its breath-taking natural beauty, especially around the intricate Marlborough Sounds. Boasting New Zealand’s largest wine-growing region, fresh seafood and pristine beauty, Marlborough is unforgettable.
In August 2018, Screen Wellington and Marlborough District Council entered into a partnership to help develop film-friendly policies and promote the Marlborough region as a film destination.
The iconic coastal landscape of Cape Campbell in Marlborough features in The Light Between Oceans and is one of the films most identifiable locations. The adaptation of M.L. Stedman’s bestselling 2012 novel stars Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander and was perfect for the big screen. The film was shot in 2014 in the Marlborough and Otago regions and was released in 2016.
This is a project which demanded location - We knew early in the process we wanted to look in New Zealand. There is a richness of culture, a richness of architecture and a richness of landscape. We are very lucky.
