The Film School is a Private Training Establishment dedicated to training people in the craft of film.
The New Zealand Film and Television School (The Film School) has been operating in Wellington since 2000. Senior members of the film industry recognised the need for a film school which would be able to respond to industry training needs.
Graduates of the Film School are sought-after filmmakers committed to the art of storytelling, who contribute to the quality and growth of New Zealand film.
Their highest priority result is the selection and cultivation of active film originators who have the character, craft skills and personal voice to actively produce original, insightful and entertaining films.

The course is hands-on and practical. Teaching is project-based and is taught on the digital video format. Students make a range of individual projects that may include music videos, documentaries and short digital dramatic films. The focus of the year is the production of two short films, shot on the Ari- Alexa and made collectively by the whole crew.
