A now empty former prison, built by prisoners in 1927, located on the hills of Miramar. The fully fenced, sand and brick building is accessed by a private road.
Tucked out of sight atop the Miramar Peninsula, Mt Crawford prison was built by prisoners themselves in 1927, using concrete blocks made with sand from Wellington's South Coast.
After 85 years in operation the outdated facilities were decommissioned in 2012.
