Primary and secondary schools are the second level of education in New Zealand and Wellington has a number of excellent schooling options to choose from.
Many children go to a school close to where they live, and many schools have an enrolment scheme called zoning. If you live in an area close to a school (the school’s zone), your child is guaranteed to get a place at that school. If you want your child to go to a school outside the area where you live, you may have to apply and a place is not guaranteed.

Paraparaumu College is a co-educational state secondary school situated north of Wellington on the Kapiti Coast. It is known for academic excellence and high levels of scholarships for students going on to tertiary studies. A strong sports and arts extra mural programme is offered to students and all students are offered the chance to learn te reo Māori and tikanga (traditional Māori customs).
