Orpheus Choir Wellington — The Armed Man

Two thrilling works open the Orpheus Choir’s year of song at Michael Fowler Centre.
Karl Jenkins’ modern classic ‘The Armed Man — A Mass for Peace’ is dedicated to the victims of the Kosovo crisis. Premiered in 1999, it is now a box office favourite with audiences around the world. It uses texts from poets and multiple religious sources. Also being heard is a choral work from acclaimed New Zealand composer Takerei Komene. ‘E Kiwi E’, sung in Te Reo Māori, honours New Zealand’s 28th Battalion, known as the Māori Battalion.

Hans Christian Anderson said, “Where words fail, music speaks”. The Orpheus Choir organisers think music is a powerful force for healing. They are hoping this concert brings a strong message for peace in this period of global conflict.
