How 2013’s events calendar is shaping up
Once upon a time in November 1997 a regional tourism organisation for Wellington was born. Positively Wellington Tourism (PWT) is a council controlled organisation (CCO) responsible for marketing the coolest little capital in the world as a destination. We are a public-private partnership, funded through the Wellington City Council Downtown Levy and a variety of regional and commercial partnerships.
In the past decade, PWT has overseen a growth of 46% in domestic commercial guest nights in the coolest little capital in the world and visitors now spend on average over $2600 per minute in the Wellington region. For a quick overview of what we do, watch our The Numbers Are Up 2011 report on youtube.
We position Wellington as New Zealand’s ultimate urban destination; our capital of cool if you will. We didn’t make that up because we’re snazzy marketing types. It’s true. People other than us say so all the time. In fact Lonely Planet Best in Travel 2011 says Wellington is the coolest little capital in the world. Check out Our Campaigns page for details on recent campaign success.
Have a browse through the Partnership Wellington Trust 2010/11 Annual Report (PDF: 3MB) for full details on our performance measurements and what we've achieved.
As noted above, Positively Wellington Tourism is a not-for-profit council controlled organisation funded by the Downtown Levy - a targeted rate paid by commercial property owners in the Wellington CBD. The city’s investment is then enhanced by project-based partnerships with surrounding regions and tourism businesses. There's a number of different ways Wellington businesses can work with us to maximise the opportunities tourism presents. We recommend you sign up to Positively Informed, our monthly industry enews that keeps you in the loop on trends, what's happening in Wellington tourism and what we're up to.
