For the ultimate afternoon pick-me-up, La Belle Waffle is serving up a hot chocolate with a Belgian twist.

The secret is quite simple. They use a lot of Belgian chocolate in their hot chocolate which creates a smooth velvety drink full of flavour.

A good way to tick off two Belgian favourites is by also grabbing a Belgian waffle. Bite into their real Belgian waffles with a caramelised crunchy crust, shallower pockets, covered in your favourite toppings.

Zelati

Left Bank, 116 Cuba Street, Te Aro, Wellington

Family-run gelateria and dessert café Zelati is getting a name for its hot chocolate. Owner Hillary Tuason and her family are originally from the Philippines and have taken their inspiration for their hot chocolate from the regional thick Spanish-style hot chocolate made in the Philippines called ‘Tsokolate-eh’.

Made with dark 72% chocolate, Zelati's version is 100% plant-based and dairy-free. If you can't decide between hot chocolate and gelato, opt for a Hot Chocolate Affogato with thick hot chocolate poured over a scoop of gelato - perfect for a wintery treat.
