Social media guidelines

Our goal

WellingtonNZ’s social media channels enable us to connect and engage in real-time conversations directly with Wellingtonians, visitors, and anyone interested in our capital city. Shared content and conversations help develop community spirit, greater awareness of what our city and region have to offer, and news and information.

Community guidelines

WellingtonNZ is here to answer your questions about Wellington and the content we share on our social media channels.

We respect everyone’s right to express their thoughts and opinions, and we encourage constructive dialogue among our followers. But we do ask you to follow the social media platform's terms and our house rules. If you don’t adhere to them, then we may remove your comment/s, and, in extreme cases, block you from posting to the relevant social media channel.

While we moderate our pages, we hope to create a community with you that is engaging, respectful, and has a culture of self-moderation. Here are some basic rules to keep in mind when engaging on our channels.

Social media house rules

Be respectful to others

Keep your comments nice and do not include content, images, or links to things which could be obscene, offensive, defamatory, threatening, harassing, overtly sexual, incorrect information, discriminatory or hateful to another person or organisation. This includes us, our partners, our employees and other people or organisations.

In the interest of maintaining a safe space for all, harmful content will be hidden or removed. If harmful content is repeatedly posted, you may be blocked.

This is a spam-free zone

Please don’t repeat posts or post unsolicited ads. They will be removed.

No ticket selling

Do not solicit or attempt to resell any tickets for events that are promoted via our pages. Comments of this nature will be removed.

Keep it relevant

Keep your comments relevant to the WellingtonNZ page and thread.

Protect your privacy

Please do not post any of your own or anyone else’s personal information, such as private addresses or phone numbers. Our social media pages are not secure channels as they are under the control of third parties. We encourage you to read each social media channel’s conditions of use and privacy policy.

No political content

WellingtonNZ is politically neutral and as a council-controlled organisation, our social media pages must reflect this. Any post, whether positive or negative, that is politically biased, will be removed.
