Nolita, New Zealand’s first plant-based pizzeria and pastaria has found its home on upper Cuba Street. Co-owner of Nolita, Lydia Suggate decided to open Nolita to fill the plant-based sized gap in the Wellington pizza scene.

When people go vegan it’s often the cheese they miss most, so Nolita has given mozzarella a plant-based makeover. Made in-house by fermenting cashews with dairy-free cultures, the finished product is an incredible substitute for the dairy-based real deal. Order a side of mozzarella sticks to see and taste the delicious gooey goodness for yourself.

As well as making their own cheese, Nolita handmakes their own pizza dough and pasta. They do things differently by making their dough from rye sourdough starters and leaving it to ferment for 48 hours before it is hand-stretched and shaped into your next meal.

An all-day eatery, Nolita’s entirely vegan menu covers all meals from breakfast through to dinner. You’ll find all your favourite classic pizzas on the menu, from Margherita through to parmigiana (topped with roasted eggplant) and the pasta menu has vegan takes on all the greats including bolognese. Wash it down with a pint of local craft beer or share a jug of the limoncello cocktail.

The name Nolita comes from a small suburb in New York – North of Little Italy. The Cuba Street restaurant has a bit of New York vibe going on with red brick walls, open space and large windows create a loft-like atmosphere.
