Te Whare Whakarauika Wellington Town Hall
Homegrown Wellington band Drax Project are booked for a very special gig — the grand reopening of Te Whare Whakarauika Wellington Town Hall. After a 13 year hiatus, the building is back online and who better to christen it than a local band with an international reputation?
Drax Project fuses pop, R&B, hip-hop, and jazz. They formed in 2014 after meeting in Wellington (members studied Jazz Performance at Victoria University and Whitireia Polytech). After capturing local audiences busking on the streets, they launched a professional career. Since then, they’ve released two albums, toured extensively, and opened for global heavyweights Christina Aguilera, Ed Sheeran, and Camila Cabello.
Joining Drax Project on the bill is one of the city’s most beloved artists. Oscar-winning Bret McKenzie will open the evening alongside his eight-piece Wellington-based band, The State Highway Wonders.
When Te Whare Whakarauika Wellington Town Hall officially reopens in February, it will be 13 years since the iconic venue closed for refurbishment and strengthening. This landmark concert, full of Wellington talent, is the perfect way to honour the city’s rich cultural and musical legacy.
