St James Theatre
It’s a 70s rock musical of biblical proportions, and it’s back. Jesus Christ Superstar is heading to St James Theatre, and Wellington audiences are in for a treat. This production won the 2017 Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival and came fresh off an acclaimed 2023/24 tour of the United Kingdom.
Jesus Christ Superstar explores the biblical events leading to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ as seen through the eyes of his betrayer, Judas Iscariot. The story, told entirely through song, explores the personal relationships and struggles among Jesus, Judas, Mary Magdalene, Jesus’ disciples, his followers and the Roman Empire.
The 1970s rock score features lyrics and music by Emmy, GRAMMY, Oscar, and Tony winners Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Well-known numbers include I Don’t Know How to Love Him, Gethsemane, and Superstar.
A gorgeous, thrilling, heavenly musical.
