Now in its eleventh year, Lōemis has developed into a fantastical and transformative performance festival. It traverses the worlds of food, sculpture, immersive art, music, poetry, film, and more. Traditionally taking place over the winter solstice, it embraces discovery, curiosity and ritual.
Expanding on previous years’ offerings, this year Lōemis boasts an impressive lineup of cutting-edge international artists standing shoulder to shoulder with local creatives. Among the feast this year is psychedelic rock collective Acid Mothers Temple from Japan, indie electronic musician Chanel Beads, and spoken word artist Lydia Lunch. From Aotearoa, Shayne P Carter performs with the NZSO for the first time, and Troy Kingi presents the Wellington debut of Night Lords, his foray into hip-hop. There is also an exclusive performance from Britain’s post-punk band Snapped Ankles.
Look out for a night market, an otherworldly procession along the waterfront, pop-up restaurants, documentaries, Q&A’s, and site-specific artworks. More than 20 events are planned across the 12-day festival — a feast for the senses during winter.
