Richard Dawkins is a world-renowned evolutionary biologist. When published in 1976, his book, ‘The Selfish Gene’, reframed our understanding of life, behaviour, and human nature. Now, 50 years later, he is coming to Wellington to reflect on the book’s revolutionary legacy. He explores what fifty years of science has confirmed or challenged and explains why its core questions are more urgent today than ever before.
‘The Selfish Gene’ has remained a cornerstone of modern science. It introduced the gene-centred view of evolution and coined the now-ubiquitous concept of the ‘meme’. The ideas in it ignited global debate and five decades of subsequent research. Richard Dawkins is one of the most consequential scientific communicators of our time, so don’t miss the rare opportunity to hear him speak in person.
