Haywards Hill Road, part of State Highway 58, is the primary route from the Hutt Valley to Pāuatahanui and Porirua. It was first built in the 1870s.
Approval for major renovations happened in 2010. This included the building of an elevated interchange at the intersection of State Highways 2 and 58. It features a car park and a footbridge across to Manor Park, a residential suburb and home to the Manor Park Golf Sanctuary.
The road follows sweeping bends and climbs to offer stunning views of parts of the Hutt Valley. Most notably the Haywards electrical substation. It is one of the largest in New Zealand and a key part of the national electricity network.
