It’s time to party like it’s 2016 as the Hurricanes try to cap a stellar season by lifting their second Super Rugby trophy. More than 24,000 fans created an electric atmosphere at Hnry Stadium in the Canes’ semi-final win over the Blues. This weekend is set to be even bigger with a sellout crowd expected against the Chiefs.
It’s shaping up as an epic encounter, with both sides storming to 11 wins from 14 matches in the regular season. Like the Hurricanes, the Chiefs have cruised through the finals series. They humbled the defending champion Crusaders 49-12 in the semi-final. The Waikato-based side is hoping its fifth time is lucky after losing the previous four grand finals. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes are in their first final since 2016, when they beat South Africa’s Lions for their only Super Rugby title.
There’s only been one meeting between these sides this season, with the Chiefs coming out on top 22-17 in Hamilton. The Hurricanes will be hoping it’s a different story with their home fans behind them. Don’t miss your chance to be at Hnry Stadium for a night of gripping Super Rugby.
