YOYO Design by Kiwis prioritises timeless design, sustainable materials and quality craftsmanship. The business brings together around 60 New Zealand designers, makers and brands. YOYO has carefully styled ‘mini rooms’ inside its Wellington showroom. These invite visitors to see how furniture, lighting, and homeware can work together in their own home. The showroom is located in The Woolstore — a 1911 building on Thorndon Quay. The heritage building’s high ceilings and exposed steel girders allow the stock room to breathe.

After working around New Zealand and overseas, Todd and Fiona Hayvice met in the capital and went on to open YOYO in 2011. The name comes from the classic toy, chosen for its simple, functional design. Furniture has been part of Todd’s family for three generations, with deep roots in Wellington. His grandfather, Maurie Kleist, ran a furniture manufacturer on Adelaide Road from the 1940s. His father, Michael Hayvice, ran Woodcraft Interiors and later Country Theme. This gave Todd an early appreciation for quality design and enduring materials. Today, Todd and Fiona draw on that family legacy to help customers find the right solutions for their homes.

Fiona says locals value quality, support Kiwi makers, and enjoy designs that are a little different. That makes Wellington a natural home for YOYO. The same values guide the designers and makers they choose to work with. The couple work closely with Kiwi craftspeople to bring bespoke pieces to life. It’s a hands-on approach that helps customers create homes that feel creative, unique, and a reflection of their personalities.

“We’re particularly drawn to pieces that use natural materials, with a strong sense of craftsmanship. They’re designed to last and be enjoyed for years to come. Well-made pieces don’t need to be replaced simply because trends change, so we focus on curating a modern take on timeless design,” said Fiona.
