Looking for a restaurant suitable for a group? Wellington has a number of dining options that can cater to a business group.

Restaurant suggestions for large groups

Wellington has a range of dining options suitable to host large groups.

  • Coco at the Roxy (up to 100 people) — a mid to high-range restaurant serving modern New Zealand cuisine in a luxuriously restored 1928 cinema, available for private hire. Canape, cocktail, banquet, and buffet menus are available.
  • Monsoon Poon (up to 200 people) — a mid-range, halal-friendly Southeast Asian fusion restaurant with a fun and casual private dining space. A great selection of banquet menus are available.
  • Rata Café (up to 130 people) — a relaxing low to mid-end lunch spot overlooking the reservoir of urban ecosanctuary, Zealandia. Canape-style or seated lunch menus are available. Choose from a private dining space or book the entire venue.
  • Dockside (up to 150 people) — enjoy a mid to high-end, seafood-based menu in a stunning harbourside location. The main deck seats large groups with smaller private spaces also available.
  • Foxglove (150 people) — the Queens Wharf Ballroom is available for private hire, offering mid to high-end local cuisine options along with sweeping harbour views.
  • Shed22 (150 to 230 people) — enjoy mid-end casual pub dining in a relaxed waterfront location, next to Te Papa. Three private spaces are available for large groups, or the entire venue can be hired.
  • Shed 5 (15 to 220 people) — one of Wellington’s premier seafood restaurants, housed in an old wharf store on the waterfront. Hire the full venue for groups up to 220, or a private dining room caters for 15 to 60 seated.
  • Logan Brown (12 to 80 people) — an award-winning fine dining restaurant set in a stunning 1920s banking chamber. A 12-seat dining room is available for hire on the mezzanine and your choice of special group set menus. Please note, this area has no accessible access. Big groups can book the full venue for up to 80 people.

Restaurant suggestions for small groups

Wellington has a variety of smaller private dining rooms that provide a more intimate setting.

  • Bellamys (12 to 60 people) — one of Wellington’s most unique dining experiences, enjoy approachable fine dining right in the heart of New Zealand’s parliament. A private dining room seats 12 people, or the restaurant can be booked for up to 60 guests. 
  • Boulcott Street Bistro (10 to 16 people) — enjoy classic bistro fare in a cute Victorian cottage. An upstairs private dining room seats 10 to 16 (no accessible access).
  • Ortega Fish Shack & Bar (up to 32 people) — fabulous service and a menu focused on fresh New Zealand seafood for an upmarket but laidback dining experience. An upstairs private dining room seats up to 32 people.
  • Master Kong (16 to 40 people) — enjoy Asian street food as a banquet or small plates. Three private dining rooms are suitable for groups of six to 16, while the main restaurant caters to larger groups of up to 40.
  • St John’s (20 to 35 people) — serving mid to high-end modern New Zealand cuisine in a 1930s art deco building. Choose from the restaurant, two private rooms and a waterfront courtyard.
  • Southern Cross (25 to 52 people) — a local favourite, Southern Cross features a casual dining experience with something for everyone. Six separate private dining spaces are available.
  • Lulu Bar (26 to 48 people) — centrally located in Courtenay Place, inspiration for Lulu comes from the Pacific Islands. The casual bar and restaurant has a private dining room or entire restaurant available for hire.
  • The Arborist (up to 80 people) — enjoy unpretentious food and drink menus in a relaxed environment. A downstairs private room is available for up to 40 people, or the rooftop bar can be hired for up to 80 people.
