25 October 2026
The Diwali Festival of Lights is celebrated annually by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and some Buddhists. Wellington's waterfront hosts the city's own Diwali on 25 October. Bring the whole whānau along to this free festival from 2pm to 8:30pm at TSB Arena and Shed 6. There will be non-stop entertainment and cultural activities including dance and music throughout the day. In between performances, grab a mango lassi and vegetarian kai options from across the region. Select a henna design for your hand or fashion and browse jewellery and fashion stalls.
Beyond stalls and stages, Diwali symbolises the ‘victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.’ To mark the celebration, the festival finishes with a fireworks display. Gather around Queens Wharf or along the Wellington Waterfront at 8:50pm to celebrate the end of a vibrant day of culture.
