The Orpheus Choir and orchestral ensemble perform at the Michael Fowler Centre.

From the earliest dreams of flight to one of the greatest choral masterpieces ever written — Wellington is in for a treat in April. Wellington’s Orpheus Choir joins forces with Orchestra Wellington to present a mighty programme. Mozart Requiem and Christopher Tin’s To Shiver the Sky explores five centuries of human imagination and purpose.

Mozart’s Requiem stands as one of the greatest choral works ever composed. Written in the final months of his life, it sets the words to the Catholic requiem mass with blazing dramatic power. The oratorio has a depth of feeling that has captivated audiences for more than two centuries. To Shiver the Sky is an epic choral spectacular from Grammy-winning composer Christopher Tin. It draws on texts from da Vinci, Hildegard von Bingen, Ovid, Jules Verne, Amelia Earhart and John F. Kennedy. The work builds a sweeping musical history of human flight from imagined wings to the Moon landing. Orchestra and choir conductor Brent Stewart will also lead four soloists through the concert. They include soprano Emma Pearson, alto Charlotte Secker, tenor Ridge Ponini, and bass Robert Tucker.
