The New Zealand professional premiere of one of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most celebrated musicals is coming to Wellington. Sunset Boulevard takes centre stage at the newly restored Wellington Town Hall in April. Local company WITCH Music Theatre is presenting an epic site-specific production as part of the venue’s grand reopening programme. 

In a major coup for the production, acclaimed Tony Award-nominated performer Keala Settle will be playing the main role, Norma Desmond. Keala has strong links to New Zealand so she sees this opportunity as a homecoming. She is best known for her role as Lettie Lutz in ‘The Greatest Showman’ and for her powerhouse performance of the Golden Globe-winning song “This Is Me” from the film. 

Sunset Boulevard has earned major acclaim across Broadway and the West End, including seven awards from 11 Tony Award nominations for its original 1994 Broadway production. It’s 2023 revival won seven Olivier Awards from 11 nominations. The production, designed specifically for the Town Hall’s refurbished auditorium, marks the New Zealand professional premiere of the musical.
