About the trail

Wētā is a short downhill mountain bike ride that connects to some of Belmont Regional Park's mountain biking and walking trails.

It starts halfway up Slogger Logger (a 4WD track) and is an ideal trail to do after Electric Avenue. From the lower part of the trail you can connect with Borderline and practice your jumps. You also get to Wētā by riding up 4 Degrees and Connect Four.

The trail is primarily for mountain bikers, but walkers are allowed. Be aware of mountain bike users travelling downhill at high speeds.

Getting there

There are two routes you can take to get to the trail:

  • Start from the Stratton Street entrance to Belmont Regional Park and climb Old Coach Road until you reach 4 Degrees. Continue along 4 Degrees to Connect Four. The bottom of Connect Four joins onto Wētā.
  • Start from Slogger Logger (4WD track) and continue on until you find the start of Wētā at the signposted junction.

There are regular bus and train services to Lower Hutt and the surrounding area. Timetables are available from the Metlink website.
