Enter a Cuban-themed world: Havana Bar

Step into a world of colour, sound and taste at Wellington’s favourite Cuban themed watering hole, created from combining two historic cottages.

With low lighting that gives the bar a timeless feel, the interior has a shabby-chic aesthetic with crystal light fittings, lush tropical potted palms and a framed portrait of a very dashing-looking Che Guevara. The toilets in the restaurant area are cleverly hidden behind a door disguised as a bookshelf. Part-restaurant, part-bar, Havana is the place for cocktails, tapas and late-night music.

The restaurant's menu is very much catered towards a sharing, tapas-style food experience, with an abundance of cocktails on offer to wash down your favourite bites. There’s also a rotating menu of seasonal plates. Havana is a world away from anything you’ll find on Cuba St or Courtenay Place, with pastel walls and a gaudy mashup of Cuban-style interior fixtures.

Across the hall, you’ll find the vibrant and lively bar where a host of live acts and DJ’s can be found three nights a week. Experts in the Cuban specialities, there’s a wide range of beer, wines and spirits, both Cuban and otherwise on offer to quench your thirst.

And on the brighter days in Wellington, you can make your way outside. The courtyards are a great late afternoon suntrap of shimmering colours.

Your day can move from relaxing with the finest Havana Coffees through to lunch and dinner, ending with a night of salsa-inspired tunes and house music taking you through to the wee hours.
