An Evening with Mary Beard: Talking Classics

Join English classicist and historian Dame Mary Beard in Wellington for a night packed with witty stories and surprising facts. An Evening with Mary Beard: Talking Classics plays at The Opera House in Wellington. The show is built around her new book, ‘Talking Classics: The Shock of the Old’. A guest host joins Mary and will round out the evening with a Q&A. If you have burning questions about Roman emperors or 4,000-year-old bread, now is the time to have them answered.

Mary has made a career around refusing to let the ancient world stay ancient. She’s authored more than 20 books, including ‘SPQR’ and ‘Emperor of Rome’. These books helped popularise Roman history while staying true to her academic roots (she had a 40-year career at the University of Cambridge). She’s appeared on television programmes from Roman history documentaries to ‘The Grand Tour’.

Expect an unpretentious and informative evening. On your way out, pick up a copy of ‘Talking Classics’. Get the book signed by Mary, and leave feeling more knowledgeable than when you walked in.
