Aotearoa New Zealand Festival of the Arts
February to March 2026
annual
event
20 September – 19 October 2025
Porirua is the home of New Zealand’s favourite chocolate — Whittaker's. So it's only fitting it has a festival celebrating all things chocolate. During September and October, the city is serving up a range of tasty treats for ChoctoberFest, all featuring Whittaker’s chocolate.
More than 30 local businesses will be competing in the Whittaker’s Bake Off and Top of the Chocs. Head in to participating spots, and try unique chocolate drinks and amazing baked goods. You can then vote for your favourites.
Indulge your tastebuds and try special drinks such as a whipped white choc biscoff latte, or a coldbrew shot choc maltini. For a sweet snack, how about a molten embrace, kunafa chocolate croissant, or a banoffee flossy pie? There are plenty of options for all chocolate lovers, including vegan and gluten free items.
As well as voting for your favourite items, you can join the fan club, share reviews, and be in to win. Up for grabs are 100 Whittaker’s Peanut Slabs, an exclusive tour of the Whittaker’s factory, and ChoctoberFest vouchers for local cafes and bars.
The festival has been running since 2022, and is a highlight of the local hospitality scene.

Porirua and its suburbs are set between a two-armed harbour and west-facing beaches. Being so close to the water the city has attracted a large and diverse community. This brings a wide range of food options. From Thai green curries to Polish golabki, Neapolitan pizzas to hearty burgers — a feast awaits you.
With its two harbours and surrounding hills, Porirua is full of natural vistas. Whether it’s a steep climb with impressive panoramas, a foray into native flora, or a simple beach stroll, there’s something for all ages and abilities.
