For seven days, men’s and women’s hockey teams from across Aotearoa head to Wellington for a major competition. The outdoor pitches of the National Hockey Stadium will welcome dozens of teams in the Ford National Hockey Championship 2026. They compete across three tiers in the hope of impressing selectors ahead of the Premier Hockey League. Current and former Black Sticks play alongside emerging talent. Expect mouthguards, shin guards, and heated rivalries. Competition gets fierce when regional bragging rights are on the line.
Wellington Hockey Association hosts the event. Every division has its own battles and promotion opportunities. “It’s always great to see close competition on the field and the friendships that develop off it as teams come together for the week,” says Hockey New Zealand’s Lisa Williamson.
