He’s hailed as one of the most influential artists of his generation. Double Grammy award-winning jazz vocalist, composer, and bandleader Gregory Porter is heading to Aotearoa. His show is an exclusive for the Wellington Jazz Festival and will be his first time in the country. Since his breakout album ‘Liquid Spirit’, he’s captivated audiences worldwide with his soulful baritone vocals and dynamic storytelling. That album won a Grammy in 2014 and went on to sell over a million copies.
Gregory’s sound is influenced by Bakersfield Southern Gospel and Nat King Cole. It’s a unique, timeless blend of jazz, soul, and gospel. He has a defining voice in contemporary jazz that prompted a reviewer from The New York Times to say he is “a jazz singer of thrilling presence, a booming baritone with a gift for earthy refinement and soaring uplift.” Experience his liquid-gold vocals and magnetic stage presence at St James Theatre for this one-off New Zealand performance.
Live in WLG presale starts on Friday 15 August at 10am.
