At just 25 years old, she has become a breakout jazz sensation. Five-time Grammy Award-winning vocalist Samara Joy is redefining 21st-century jazz. Her mature tone, refined phrasing, and love of the great American songbook have made her a standout talent. Samara makes her New Zealand debut at the Wellington Jazz Festival in October. Joined by her outstanding seven-piece band, she will perform music from her critically-acclaimed new album ‘Portrait’. You’ll also hear selections from her extensive back catalogue.
Since winning the Grammy for Best New Artist in 2023 and earning a spot on Forbes 30 Under 30 list, Samara has sold out major venues across the globe. At the St James Theatre, you’ll hear her seamlessly blend the elegance of jazz’s golden age with a distinctly modern touch.
Live in WLG presale starts on Friday 15 August at 10am.
“When Samara Joy sings, the world stands still. Tension vanishes, shoulders relax, serenity seems within reach.”

Shaken or stirred, the capital’s bartenders know how to make a mean cocktail. Revisit a classic, or ask for something made specially for you. These cocktail bars have a tipple or two to tempt your tastebuds.
Spring in Wellington is a bit like the city itself — lively, unpredictable, and full of surprises. As the days grow longer and the city bursts into bloom, you’ll find pockets of sunshine, crisp sea breezes, and the occasional gust.
