About the trail

Surrounded by native forest and birdlife, the Belmont Trig Track drops down to Korokoro Dam and then climbs uphill via Baked Beans Bend to Belmont Trig.

The trail is mainly for bikers, but walkers are also allowed. At the top, you’ll get a 360-degree view, from the Tararua Range all the way round to the South Island’s Kaikōura Range.

On your return journey, you’ll pass through farmland and forest, including native tawa, kahikatea and rimu trees.

  • The trail starts and ends at the Oakleigh Street entrance to Belmont Regional Park, in the Lower Hutt suburb of Maungaraki.
  • There are regular bus and train services to Lower Hutt and the surrounding area. Timetables are available from Metlink.
