About the trail

Camborne Walkway is one of the most popular trails in the Porirua area. The trail begins near Paremata Bridge and follows the shoreline of Pāuatahanui Inlet. It passes by the colourful and iconic Camborne boatsheds, with their mini gardens and displays. Along the way, you might see fish jumping from the water, native birds wading, and people out kayaking or fishing.

The walkway is mostly flat, with gentle undulations. It is narrow and rocky in places, but all stream crossings are bridged. This shared path is popular with walkers, cyclists, prams, and off-lead dogs, so it can get congested at times. Take it easy, enjoy the views, and be ready to give way to others.

Getting there

Camborne Walkway can be completed in either direction. Enter/exit the trail from either the Paremata Bridge at Dolly Varden Reserve, or at the Grays Road car park.

What to expect

The trail follows the shores of Pāuatahanui Inlet with expansive views across Porirua Harbour and the wetland environment. It is ideal for birdwatching, short strolls, and enjoying the coastal environment. While the track is wheelchair-accessible, it is rough and narrow in sections, so assistance is required in places.

Know before you go

  • The trail is suitable for children and most levels of fitness. The walkway is pram-friendly.
  • There is limited shade on this trail.
  • Dogs must be on-lead at all times, except between the boatsheds and the Wellington Jet Sport clubrooms, where they can be off-lead but must be under control.
