Whitireia Park, on the western side of Porirua Harbour, provides an easy walking option for families. It’ll take about 1.5 hours to walk through the popular 6km loop trail. The well-maintained track offers beaches, meadows, steep trails, wooded areas, and sweeping views of the harbour and Mana Island.
Dogs are welcome, with lead restrictions in certain areas of the park. Whitireia Park Reserve is also popular for fishing off the rocks, exploring rock pools, swimming at Onehunga Bay, and kite surfing.

This trail has two main entrances:
Thornley Street: Take the Porirua exit from State Highway 1 and follow Titahi Bay Road to the end. Turn right into Bay Drive, left into Thornley Street, then left into Whitireia Road, and enter the park. Follow the road to the beach, and parking is on the right.
Onepoto entrance: Turn right off Titahi Bay Road onto Onepoto Road and park at the end of the road.
Bus Number 220 leaves from Porirua station and stops at the bottom of Gloaming Hill, where you can access the track from the Onepoto entrance.
