About the trail

Te Ara o Tupua Horo Nuku is a 11.6km trail connecting Ngau Matau (Point Howard) and Mā-koromiko (Windy Point) in Eastbourne. The path can be walked or cycled in either direction. Tracing the coastline, the smooth, flat path is ideal for commuters and families with strollers alike.

As you go, you'll learn about the story of Ngake, one of the ancient spiritual phenomena who created in traditional Māori narrative.

You'll also spot seabirds and maybe even a seal or two. The path offers views of the harbour heads and a different perspective of the cityscape.

At the northern end, users can connect to the Petone Esplanade or the Hutt River Trail. At the southern end, users can connect to the Pencarrow Coast Road, a gravel 4x4 trail that leads to the famous lighthouses.
