TAHI: New Zealand Festival of Solo Performance

Comedy, cabaret, poetry, family-friendly acts, and world premieres are all on the radar for this theatrical event. The annual TAHI NZ Festival of Solo Performance provides a stage for more than 25 actors, celebrating emerging artists to experienced professionals. Storylines vary from rugby to the manosphere to an improvised nature documentary. Laughing and crying are both considered acceptable responses.

Tahi in Te Reo Māori translates to ‘one’, but another translation for this word is ’unity’. Dr. Sally Richards, director of TAHI, chose the name because of this duality. Solo theatre requires both personal courage and creative collaboration. As Sally says, “I see the stage manager, broom in hand, sweep before and after a performance. It reminds me that the solo performer is a misnomer — that solo performance relies on successful collaboration with others.”
