Matilda The Musical

It’s won over 100 international awards and delighted more than 11 million audience members worldwide. Now Matilda The Musical is flying into the capital for a limited season in 2026. The smash-hit show is inspired by Roald Dahl’s beloved book and features original songs by Tim Minchin. 

Packed with high-energy dance numbers and catchy songs, Matilda follows the story of a little girl with a vivid imagination, sharp mind, and surprising psychokinetic powers. With the help of a kind teacher, Miss Honey and a motley crew of “revolting children”, Matilda takes a stand against the terrifying Miss Trunchbull and changes her own destiny. From chocolate-cake chaos to alphabet acrobatics, audiences can expect a riot of colour, comedy, and courage. 

The stage-spectacular is being brought to life by Capital Theatre Trust and G&T Productions. This is the team behind critically acclaimed seasons of Mamma Mia!, Wicked, We Will Rock You, and Les Misérables. Wellington’s wealth of world-class talent will be utilised to bring Roald Dahl’s iconic characters to glorious and mischievous life.
