The Royal New Zealand Ballet (RNZB) is a company of dynamic dancers. Each season, they perform an eclectic repertoire of outstanding dance for national and international audiences. From 19th century classics to 21st century contemporary works, the aim is to present dance of outstanding quality. With its 2026 programme, it continues to push artistic boundaries under the influence of artistic director Ty King-Wall.
The heritage of the Royal New Zealand Ballet is celebrated with three works honouring legacy, connection, and the spirit of dance. Sir Frederick Ashton’s Birthday Offering is performed as a centenary tribute to Southland-born ballerina Rowena Jackson. Sarah Foster-Sproull’s Ultra Folly and Andrea Schermoly’s Stand to Reason also feature.
Classical choreography and Tchaikovsky’s magical music bring an age-old story to life. Watch as the princess pricks her finger and falls into an enchanted sleep, only to be awakened by true love. This 2011 production has a touch of wizardry from Wellington’s Wētā Workshop. It’s the perfect pre-Christmas treat.
