Set Fire to the Brass

Expect familiar melodies, unexpected turns, and a celebration of jazz. For two nights only, Set Fire to the Brass brings a two-part show to The Opera House. First on stage, say ‘Hello’ to Kiwi vocalist Joanna Darling. She gives English singer-songwriter Adele’s songs a lush, jazz-infused edge. She’ll give full-hearted renditions of hits like Rolling in the Deep and Skyfall. Members of the Rodger Fox Big Band and local musicians lead the second half with improv solos and classic jazz standards. 

Joanna has performed in musicals, cabarets, and as a soloist on international cruise lines. She combines a powerful vocal belt with piano and guitar. The Rodger Fox Big Band has played at prestigious jazz festivals and won six Tui Awards for the best New Zealand jazz recording. Together, they deliver the emotional depth of Adele’s lyrics with the warmth of live jazz.
